Introduction SONET (synchronous eye tissue) - tutorial series fiber optic technology

SONET standard developed in the years between the years 1980 to take advantage of lower cost transmission over optical fiber. This defines a hierarchy of data rates, formats for framing and multiplexing the payload data, and the signal eye specification (wavelength and distribution), which enables multi-vendor interoperability.
